About Casino Theatre:
The Casino Theatre opened on December 13, 1941, with the British comedy Turned Out Nice Again as the first movie shown. The JH Irani family purchased the theatre in the early 1930s after visiting Madras to establish manufacture on General Patters Road.
During its first decade, the theatre predominantly exhibited English films. However, it began showing Tamil films in the mid-1950s. However, in 1971, the theatre resumed showing English films. By the early 2000s, Casino Theatre had begun playing famous Telugu films and had become the city’s go-to theatre for Telugu residents.
In 2012, the Casino was refurbished and reopened as part of the International Film Festival in Chennai.
